The Lion and the Mouse (A2)

The Lion and the Mouse

One day, a lion was sleeping in the forest. A little mouse ran over the lion’s nose. The lion woke up and caught the mouse with his big paw. The lion opened his mouth to eat the mouse.

The mouse was very scared and said, “Please, Mr. Lion, don’t eat me! If you let me go, I will help you one day.”

The lion laughed. “You are so small! How can you help me?” But he let the mouse go.

A few days later, the lion was walking in the forest. He got caught in a hunter’s net. He roared loudly, but he could not get free. The little mouse heard the lion’s roar and ran to see what was wrong. When the mouse saw the lion trapped in the net, she started to chew the ropes. She chewed until the net broke and the lion was free.

The lion said, “Thank you, little mouse! You were right. Even a small friend can be a big help.”
